Sometimes I think God gets very frustrated with us. We set our sights on temporary things letting the eternal matters go by the wayside. But God in God’s Infinite Love, has Infinite Patience. While every generation thinks it will be the last one because the End is coming, we have yet to experience the End because God is showing His Infinite Patience. If it had been left up to us, we would have given up a long time ago.
But not God, whose mercies are new every morning. God, in His Infinite Patience, desires for all to return to God’s side.
God’s Infinite Patience
Hosea writes of how the Israelites kept turning away from God. God’s reaction? To remind them to whom they belong as God’s children. God continues to say the same to us.
In Hosea chapter 11, the Lord calls for us as he did the Hebrews, but the more he calls the further we distance ourselves from him. Even though God watches over us, we sacrifice ourselves to the world. The Lord teaches us to walk and holds us as God heals us but we do not acknowledge it.
God asks the Israelites and us today via the Prophet Hosea:
You are bent on turning away from me;
How can I give you up?
How can I hand you over?
My heart winces within me;
my compassion grows warm and tender.
Thankfully God is compassionate and inclines toward grace.
I won’t act on the heat of my anger;
I won’t return to destroy you;
for I am God and not a human being,
the holy one in your midst;
I won’t come in harsh judgment.
You will walk after Me, …
and I will return you to your places of rest, says the Lord.
God, even though we tax Your Patience, we never wear out your Love for us. You are glorious and righteous. We choose to turn to You. Help us, Your children to love one another as You love us with Infinite Love and Patience. Amen.
